How do I get notified the moment tomorrow’s WOD gets posted? Ah, the CrossFitters most important question.

Set an alarm to remind yourself to check the website every night at 7:56? Make a recurring daily calendar reminder? Put a mark on a sun dial? Rely on your own human ability to remember things?

These might be good answers if it were still 2009. Luckily for us we don’t have to rely on such archaic technologies here in the enlightened year of 2015.

You see, in 2010 a small little company was founded that would revolutionize every CrossFitters unbridled need to know tomorrows WOD at the EXACT moment that it is announced. Ladies and gentlemen, Cityzens young and old, allow me to introduce you to If This, Then That: ifttt.com

IFTTT 2

This is a web app that allows to to create conditional triggers for things that happen on the world wide web. It allows you to set a ‘trigger’ (Old City publishes a new WOD, for example) then it allows to to set an action (send me an email or text).

That’s right, the days of hovering over your computer, clicking refresh over and over again until your human desire for knowledge is satiated are over. Here’s how to make set it up:

1: Create an IFTTT account.

2: Click “Create Recipe”

3: Type “RSS” in the search box, and click the RSS icon. Then click the “New Feed Item” box and insert this link into the “Feed URL” box: http://www.oldcitycrossfit.com/wod/feed/

4a (Email): After creating the trigger, create the action. Click “That.” The search for “Email.” You’ll need to set up your email account and once that’s set up the action to notify you of what tomorrows WOD is like this:

4b (SMS notification): Search for “SMS” and configure it to your phone. Then set up the action like this:

5: Click “Create Action” then wait. The wondrous world of the interwebs does the rest for you. You simply sit back and wait. The moment a WOD is posted to the website you’ll either receive an email or a text (for both simply make two recipes) telling you what the workout is.

Welcome to 2015. Enjoy life knowing the exact moment the WOD is posted.
