Hey Old Cityzens!
I hope you stayed warm this weekend! I ventured outside this morning for a run, making sure to layer up properly, and had a great time. Don’t let the cold scare you off from getting out of the gym and outside from time to time. As a reminder, there will still be running including in the workouts occasionally, so try to avoid ‘cherry picking’ workouts and avoiding them, and make sure you dress properly.
This week I wanted to bring up the importance of hand care. Last Tuesday’s workout included 50 pull ups as well as 70 kettlebell snatches per arm. I heard stories of torn palms and ripped calluses from the combination of the two movements, but especially from the sheer volume of snatches. There are a couple ways to do the snatches to help avoid tearing, which I will cover in a future post, but taking care of your hands daily will also help with tears.
Here’s a blog post from CrossFit Invictus with 3 tips on hand maintenance. Don’t always rely on chalk and gloves to ‘protect’ your hands. Calluses are a good thing, but if they get too thick they can be a hindrance. Check it out and start your own daily hand care regime.
Here we go with a highlight of the workouts to come..
Monday – maybe spend a little time Sunday night working on those calluses.. a lot of KB swings today.
Tuesday – Back squat day along with a “girl” benchmark workout. Can you think of one that would be a good complement to heavy squats??
Wednesday – This is our press day of strength followed by some clean and jerks with an increase in reps each round.
Thursday – A workout with squats.. the reps slowly increasing again.. this one will sneak up on you.
Friday – Deadlifts and double unders. Can you think of a better combination??
Saturday – A good day to snatch!
Let’s have another great week.
Show up. Do work.
