Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide coaching and training to various client groups using the CrossFit methodologies while ensuring safety and creating a positive client experience that reflects the culture of Old City CrossFit.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrate a high sense of integrity, continuous learning mindset, and a genuine enjoyment interacting with people from all walks of life.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging and motivating environment among all client groups
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with customers and lead with a customer service oriented approach
  • Actively participate in the Old City CrossFit community by taking part in gym sponsored community and social events.
  • Level 1 CrossFit Certification (or agreement to obtain certification within agreed upon timeframe from hire)
  • Adhere to Old City employee policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to commit to 10 hours per month or more.

PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • Availability to coach four (4) days per week (rotating 2 – 4 hour shifts), attend monthly coaches training and other hours, i.e. for gym events with advance notice given.
  • Co-lead member classes, facilitating various portions of the WOD independently with both experienced members and those new to CrossFit
  • Co-lead new member fundamentals classes and conduct new member consultations and baselines, as appropriate
  • Perform administrative duties (i.e., sign members into Front Desk, record members WODs on wipe board, assist members with basic membership policies and procedures, full utilize When I Work for scheduling, etc.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with clients while maintaining a high-level of professionalism at all times.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency and understanding of the fundamentals of CrossFit principles and practices, including the 9 fundamental movements
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt coaching style in the moment based on client type
  • Effective time management skills
  • Quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients gaining confidence in self as coach and Old City CrossFit as a practice
  • Operate autonomously and in a directed team effort
  • Demonstrated ability to be discreet, respectful attentive to client confidentiality
  • Understand gym policies and procedures and appropriately respond to and manage client questions, concerns or issues
  • Maintain control of classes while coaching, speak clearly and effectively while teaching and demonstrating techniques, manage class time effectively, demonstrate ability to adapt workouts based on class size or client ability, as appropriate
  • Provide timely, direct feedback to clients in a way that is appropriate to the individual to ensure safety is maintained, proper technique is adhered to and that gym policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Retain and apply new information to assess tasks performed; demonstrate ability to flex and adapt to a constantly changing work environment; take initiative and prioritize tasks; proactively raise and address concerns to lead coach or gym leadership as appropriate
  • Possess a healthy work ethic that includes neatness, dependability, punctuality, and accuracy
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and a respectful, polite demeanor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Level 1 CrossFit Certification (or agreement to obtain certification within agreed upon timeframe from hire)
  • Previous experience in athletic/fitness coaching or related fields preferred, but not required.
  • High school diploma or GED required. Educational background in exercise science and/or nutrition or other related disciplines is a plus.
  • Previous CrossFit coaching experience preferred but not required.
  • Olympic lifting, Kettlebell, Endurance, or other related training certifications are viewed favorably.
