It’s time for the CrossFit Open!
What’s that?
It’s a 5-week competition where you get to compete with people all around the world as one big CrossFit community event!
It can be a fun way to experience competition while being in the comfort of your own space, surrounded by your friends while being held to standards on movements. For those of you who like hanging out with your CrossFit friends, this is a great way to hang out and get an awesome workout in!
Plus, people all over the world are doing the same workouts as you and there’s an awesome connection with the community at large. Some top athletes use it as the first step in qualifying for regionals and eventually the games – who knows, that might be you!
The open lasts 5 weeks – February 23-March 25. Workouts are announced on Thursday nights at 8pm. Once the workouts are announced, you can watch athletes do them right away online.
No one knows what they’re going to be beforehand – that’s part of the fun! For those who sign up officially, we’ll do the workouts in the gym on Saturday afternoons after open gym and scores must be entered by 8pm on Monday nights.
This is a great way of seeing how you stack up with the people of our gym, people your age and gender from your region, and those around the world.
Afraid it will be too hard? There’s a scaled version of every workout.
If you’re interested in signing up, go to games.crossfit.com and register. Once you do so, email me, katie@oldcitycrossfit and let me know so I can add you to the roster.
Questions? Email me or ask me in the gym! Spoiler alert – I will probably try and talk you into signing up!
If you’re not into doing the workouts, but interested in the spectacle, consider becoming a judge – we’ll need some volunteers. You can also come by and cheer on your fellow Old Cityzens!
