I started CrossFit at Old City because of Brad (my husband). He told me he was going to do it, and I thought he was nuts. My impression of CrossFit was mostly from bits and pieces I’d heard and my experience of trying P90X once, which I HATED—I thought it would be too hard and I wouldn’t be able to handle it. Not only did I think he would hate it, but I was certain I would never try. Then he was all excited. He liked it so much that I couldn’t let him get a better workout then me, and had to try it.

The beginning is rough. A lot of the lifting movements are strange and new, and it’s shocking how I don’t remember when I crossed over from being insanely sore all the time to realize that I completely love it.

I love how the classes are usually pretty small, which gets you lots of attention from the coaches, how the workout is different every time, how the hardest part is fairly short (compared to my experience of marathon or triathlon training, which were long, grueling hours), how it becomes a game of counting off reps and I love how I feel when the WOD is over.

But most of all, I love how I feel ALL THE TIME. I have run two marathons, done two triathlons, trail running, 4-day-a-week yoga stretches, spinning, swim team, underwater aerobics…. CrossFit is the hardest and best workout I’ve ever done. I feel so strong, and I’m working all the muscles I’ve always wanted to. My only concern with it now is how I can keep doing it until I’m 90 years old.
