That’s right! Old City CrossFit is now a part of the Farm Bus Family! What’s the Farm Bus? That’s a great question. The Farm Bus is a Richmond based CSA that runs around the greater Virginia/Maryland area and picks up delicious, fresh, seasonal food and delivers it directly to you at drop points around the city.
The food quality is top notch, Whole Foods caliber, organic, local, no-GMO, grass-fed meats and dairy, etc…
Here’s how the Farm Bus rolls: You choose what share options you want (more details below, but there are meat, produce, and dairy options). The shares are delivered to Old City CrossFit every other Tuesday for 22 weeks (11 total deliveries) starting Oct 27th and continuing until March 15th, 2016.
There are 4 share options to choose from:
- Meat: You will receive 3-5 lbs each time of pastured, forested, and grass-fed meats, no antibiotics/hormones, raised on sustainable, local farms. Beef, Chicken, Pork, Lamb, bison, goat and seafood options available. Some of our farms include: Polyface Farms, Heritage Hollow Farms, Rappahannock River Oysters, Drury Lane Farms, Fleetwell Farms, Tuckahoe Lamb and Cattle Company. Types will be ground, sausage, roasts, chops, steaks and more.
- Produce: Vegetable and fruit items are a mix from local farms using organic or natural farming methods (low spray, integrative pest control, etc). Fall/Winter produce is subject to availability and may include: apples, pears, greens such as kale, collards, chard, cabbage, salad greens, lettuces, herbs, squash, pumpkins, root crops such as: turnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions. It will include pantry items due to seasonal farming restrictions which are often value added farm products such as jams, dried beans, cornmeal, grits, nut butters, molasses, apple butter, salsa etc..
- Dairy: Your choice of 5 items:
- 1/2 gallon of low-pasteurized, non-homogenized milk.
- 1/2 lb. of cultured butter from grass fed cows!
- Salted or Unsalted, One Quart of Yogurt/Kefir from grass-fed cows.
- Unsweetened/no additives or preservatives – Choice of Regular, Greek or Kefir.
- Approximately 1/2 lb. of cheese (options will vary).
- One dozen pastured eggs
- Everything! You get a full meat, produce, and dairy share. You also get a bakery item (GF options available).
You pay for your shares upfront, so the cost can look initially overwhelming, but it’s actually fairly cheap for the quality of food that you’ll be receiving. Here’s a breakdown of the cost:
Meat: $34/delivery ($374 total)
Produce: $44/delivery ($484 total)
Dairy: $33/delivery ($363 total)
Full Share: $118/delivery ($1298 total)
There’s also a once per season $40 membership fee added onto any share order – this covers the cost of transportation and delivery. There are also a few discounts that are offered:
- 10% military/veteran discount. Just email [email protected] with your proof of military service.
- 5% discount, for any paid in full share. Enter code “UPFRONT” at checkout.
- If you join with the FULL share package (veg, meat, dairy, bread), there is no $40 membership fee.
Old Cityzens Justin and Kara have been using The Farm Bus for years and rave about it:
The food is always great, the prices are much cheaper than Whole Foods, and you really can’t beat the convenience. We’ve been doing this for years and don’t think we’ll ever stop.
There’s one small catch – we need 10 people to sign up or our drop point gets moved to Eastern Market. So what are you waiting for – sign up! If you have any questions just email [email protected] and they’ll answer any questions you might have.
