Presidents’ Day is fast approaching and this year we have BIG plans to do a fun Presidential tour of DC to raise a ton of money for our friends at Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD).

At 12:30 on Saturday Feb 13th we’re going to leave from Old City CrossFit and do a 3 hour walking tour of some of the monuments and memorials that celebrate our past Presidents. (Open Gym that day will be cancelled). The walking tour will start from Old City and will continue to the following places (in order):

  • White House (Andrew Jackson Monument)
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • FDR Memorial
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • Washington Monument
  • US Capitol (Garfield & Grant monuments)

After we check out the Grant Memorial, we’ll head onto Big Board (around 3:30 pm) to raise a glass to the fine leaders of our nation. In past years we ventured over to Arlington, but this year we’re keeping it all in DC! We expect the walk will take about 3 hours and we want you to be there for the whole thing!

At each memorial/monument we’ll stop and listen to some interesting facts about the president who’s monument we’re checking out. This is where YOU come in!

We need someone to volunteer to give 5 minutes of interesting facts about the president of their choosing! So email us at [email protected] if you’re interested in dropping some interesting facts on us about your favorite president!

The route is shown below. While we encourage you to participate in the whole thing, you can certainly join us part way through the walk. Just check Instagram, as I’ll be keeping the world posted as to are current whereabouts through the modern wonders that is social media!

You can walk, fun, bike, bring dogs, cats, children, friends, parents, or anything else you want!

As I said above, the goal of the walk is to raise money for MSSD. For those of you who don’t know, MSSD is a boarding high school on the Gallaudet Campus. The kids who go to school there live on the campus full time. Our goal is to raise money to improve their after-school activity options. Specifically our goal is to raise $3,000 to fund the following:

  • Footballs
  • Baseball bats and balls
  • Frisbees
  • Soccer balls and indoor goals
  • Lacrosse balls (sadly not for mobility, but for actually playing lacrosse)
  • Handballs
  • Dumbbells and stands
  • Barbells and weights
  • Benches

Our goal is to make the kids at MSSD the most active and athletic kids in DC! In order to raise this money, we’re selling our 3rd Presidents’ Day shirt featuring the great Thomas Jefferson destroying his memorial with the most amazing push press you’ve ever seen…

Rebuilt-02-1

With a donation of at least $30, we’ll give you a shirt! You can certainly donate more if you wish. 100% of the money given to us for the shirts will go to funding the items outlined above.

If you’re local, just talk tell one of us at the gym and we’ll get you set up. If you’re from out of town, we’ll ship a shirt to you! Just email us at [email protected] with your address and desired donation amount and we’ll send it out to you!

We’re really excited for another great Presidents’ Day walk! So pick up a shirt and join us on Saturday, Feb 13th at 12:30!
