Olympic Lifts are the MOST complex movements we perform in the gym. They’re literally an Olympic sport. They require maximum mobility and range of motion. They require immense strength and power. Most importantly, they require an absolute dedication to mastering technique.

While we place a huge focus on teaching proper technique during classes when these movements come up, sometimes 15 minutes isn’t enough to really dive into all the necessary nuance.

This is why we created a 6 week Olympic Lifting course that will meet once per week on Sundays (starting Sunday, Jan 17th) from 11 am – 12ish pm.

During the first 6 week cycle, our focus will be on the Snatch. Taught by Old City’s very own Jason Camsky, the goal of the 6 week course is to slow things down and focus in on the details, technique, and form that make Olympic-style Weightlifting so challenging (and crazy fun!)

There will be one class a week for six weeks, and Old Cityzens of *all levels* will start at the very beginning, learning how to safely and effectively get big weight over their head. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been coming to CrossFit for years or have never tried to Snatch a barbell in your life… Old City’s Oly Club is the perfect place to start improving.

We’ll start our very first class by considering the elements that are universal to excellent Snatch form… from the ideal starting position and explosive “second pull,” all the way to finally standing up with the bar overhead.

We’ll also establish a Weightlifting 101 vocabulary, so that athletes will never confused about the name of Olympic lifts or vexed by your coaches’ strange cues. After the first week, we’ll focus on manageable reps and technique work, as opposed to just “bro-ing out” and lifting as much weight as you can!

The Snatch is a lift that countless athletes have spent literal lifetimes studying and practicing, but still haven’t reached perfection! While there is a general progression to our club, culminating with a 1RM Snatch attempt on the last day of class, each individual will be addressed on their own terms.

We will confront technique, mobility demands, and strength requirements of the Snatch. Our club will simplify things, so that no matter your starting point or needs… we focus on improving one day at a time.
