If you haven’t been following along the past few months, Kate and I have been talking about the process of defining and achieving goals.

Our goal setting process connects you with your inner motivation, then applies that motivation towards simple daily steps that are going to help you do the work that’s required to absolutely crush your goals.

This isn’t a get-rich-quick, 60-second-abs sort of process. This is a process that takes time, planning, and execution to do right. Here’s the basic outline of how we approach setting and achieving any goal you have no matter how big or small:

Create your Personal Why Statement: This is what motivates you, what fires you up, and what will serve as your inspiration when you’re not feeling 100% up for doing the work that’s required to accomplish your goals.

Define your BIG Goal: This is your 5-year goal. This is the BIG thing in life that you want to achieve. This could be totally fitness based (squat 500 lbs), it could be family based (I want to be married and have 2 kids), it could be passion based (I want to have sold one of my water color painting for more than $1000) – this goal can be literally anything you want it to be. It just has to be BIG!

Break that BIG Goal Down: This is where we teach you how to break that BIG goal down into bite sized mini-goals that will leave you feeling accomplished at each step in the process. If your goal is to climb a metaphorical mountain, these smaller goals are your base camps.

Create a battle plan: Goals happen from the accumulation of daily action. We help you create a Weekly and a Daily action plan that will help you realize what you need to be doing each and every day to achieve the BIG thing you want in life.

Define Obstacles and Create Accountability: Life happens. Things get in the way. Plans change. We will teach you strategies on how to predict (and plan for) things that consistently derail you from your larger efforts in life. We’re also going to teach you a little bit about what sort of accountability structure you thrive under. When you appropriately plan for things that might get in your way, and you build an accountability structure around what you want to achieve – you become unstoppable.

Lastly, YOU gotta do the WORK (and reassess): Planning is nice, but it’s the easy part. As some point, you need to grab that ice ax and start climbing that mountain. Our process ends with tips on how to put your head down and get the work done, then occasionally pick your head back up and make sure you’re still on the right track for what you want to accomplish with your life.
